This play draws on the great archetypal characters and imaginative settings in Lewis Carroll’s stories, Alice in Wonderland and Through The Looking Glass. In this modern imagining, a teen aged Alice goes through the looking glass and encounters herself in three separate and unreconciled aspects of her personality. She learns something of the universal qualities at work in human consciousness. She is given the opportunity to integrate her earlier experiences from Wonderland and The Looking Glass World.
The Actors Studio of Newburyport presents this production with great excitement. Being a new original play, Alice is our second Stage Three production and includes the film wizardry of Gordon Przybyla. Barbara Keiter’s dazzling set pieces and costumes complete the multi media, multi dimensional extravaganza that is Alice In Wonderglass.

Earth…Wind…Fire…
a beautifully unique combination for chamber music.
Friday March 26th
The Actors Studio of Newburyport presents The Aliento Chamber Players. Aliento Chamber Players present a musical evening of clarinet trios chosen to bring you through time and treat your ears to an aural experience like no other.
The program begins with the beautiful New England Suite written by Vally Weigl, a brilliant composer who lived from 1894–1982 who just happened to be a woman. Vally began life in Vienna and with the impending war, as a Jew she and her husband were rescued by the Quaker Society of Friends and brought to the United States where she taught and composed. A grant from the National Endowment for the Arts enabled her to compose New England Suite for Clarinet, Cello and Piano (1951/53), each movement named for a beautiful area of New England. The trio then moves to a piece by Nino Rota written in 1973. The lyricism and charm in this work are absolutely captivating. Nino Rota is perhaps best known for having scored most of Fellini’s films.
The program ends at that time where the classical period merged with the romantic period in a composition by another woman, Louise Farrenc. Louise was the only woman of the entire 19th century who held the rank of professor at the Paris Conservatoire.
All three musicians are trained with the highest-caliber conservatory training: clarinetist Karen Luttik and pianist Mary Towse-Beck both recently returned to the United States after having lived abroad for two decades. Cellist Dorothy Braker lived in New York City and Chicago before bringing her family to New Hampshire. The perspective of all three has been shaped by different experiences and this makes the music that much more exciting.
