Change is inevitable, and some changes bring opportunities!

Dear Friends,

As the personal, social, and business restrictions necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic are lifted, many of us feel a sense of change and possibility. At The Actors Studio of Newburyport, we find ourselves in a state of transition.

Last autumn, we closed the doors to our beloved black box theater at The Tannery Market Place; and now, we are actively seeking a new home. The Greater Newburyport community has supported us generously for the past 30 years, and we have every intention of staying in Newburyport.

Throughout our “brick and mortar” shutdown, we maintained a schedule of online performances, and we were able to present a series of classes via Zoom. Going forward, we will continue with a mix of online and in-person classes. We will also produce online theatrical events, as well as live performances.

We wish to express our sincere gratitude to Pastor Jarred and the folks at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. They have opened their doors to us, allowing us to hold some of our classes on site. In August, our Fourth Annual Short Play Festival will be held in their beautiful backyard. Please stay tuned for possible future live performances, within the walls of St. Paul’s graceful chapels.

Another positive outcome of the year-of-living-virtually is the official merger of The Studio with Acting Out Productions – a wonderful organization that brings theater experiences to young people.  We have long enjoyed a supportive, symbiotic relationship, and the merger will increase our capacity to serve the citizens of Greater Newburyport and Lawrence as an even stronger, community-focused organization.

Visit our website often; and, if you haven’t done so already, sign up for our emails. You’ll receive our Take5 newsletter, along with e-blasts about the latest classes and performances.

With deep appreciation for everyone’s participation in our classes and programming.
