Full Moon Story Slam – 20210320 – Iron Butterflies

March 20, 2021 @ 7:00 pm

The “Women’s HERstory Month” committee is so excited to have assembled another incredible month of inspiring stories and performances to celebrate Women’s History Month. For the 2021 WHM theme, we decided “Iron Butterflies” would be the inspiration for all shows. This was the symbol used by the Suffragists to show determination and strength. We realized it lent itself as a perfect metaphor to exemplify what we have all experienced in the year 2020. The quarantining, similar to the cocoon; then reinvention and regrowth, such as the transformation of the chrysalis to caterpillar; to vaccination and ultimate survival – the triumphant butterfly!

Full Moon Story Slam date: Saturday, March 20 at 7pm
Theme: Iron Butterflies

Please note: Audience Members limit is 100, so be sure to sign up early

The next Full Moon Story Slam is our chance to gather as friends – virtually, of course – and share true stories from our lives. Simply put, a story slam is a competition based on the art of storytelling. It puts a dual emphasis on content and performance, encouraging storytellers to focus on what they’re saying and how they’re saying it. It is an exercise in crafting stories within a set time limit – and it is great entertainment! Story slammers will tell a 5-minute short story based on the evening’s theme: “Iron Butterflies.”

If you would like to tell a story, please email info@newburyportacting.org on, or before noon on March 20th.  If you are not sure yet, you will have the opportunity to sign up during the event.  The competition will be on Saturday, March 20, at 7:00 P.M.

Don’t be nervous, we will send easy instructions and host a run through beforehand.

Pre-registration to be an audience member is also required.
Once signed up, you will be sent the Zoom link. Simply email info@newburyportacting.org
Criteria for judging will be the same as during a live slam.
• The story has an arc: a beginning, a point of change, and a resolution.
• Presentation of the story.

• Time (no longer than five minutes) and connection to the theme.

Please remember, the story must be true. The story must be yours. And you may not use props, notes or a written script.

Theme this month: Iron Butterflies
