NSRTC – Wicked Bitter Beast(s) by Kira Rockwell

October 15 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Zoey is a prodigal daughter on the run from her charismatic evangelical past which included being the daughter of a Hell House pastor. When her unforgiveness brews past boiling point, she is forced to reckon with the beast(s) within, and the ones looking back at her in the mirror. WICKED BITTER BEAST(s) is a latter-day morality play about (un)forgiveness that reverberates through time, space, and realms as Zoey keeps running from the charismatic evangelical Hell House she can’t seem to escape.
Kira Rockwell (she/her) is a playwright from the heart of Texas. She is a 2021 Artist Fellow in Dramatic Writing with the Mass Cultural Council, a recipient of the Judith Royer Excellence in Playwriting Award, second place recipient of the Paula Vogel Playwriting Award, two-time finalist and runner-up for the Princess Grace Award in Playwriting/Fellowship with New Dramatists, two-time finalist for the ONeill NPC and Blue Ink Playwriting Award, semi-finalist for The Working Farm at SPACE on Ryder Farm, and more.

Her work has been developed with The Kennedy Center, National New Play Network, Actor’s Express, The Last Frontier Theatre Conference, and Third Culture Theatre in partnership with HBO and Arts for Incarcerated Youth Network, among others. On the second Saturday of every month from September to June new plays from local and regional playwrights are presented in a Readers Theatre format before an audience, followed by a moderated talkback.
